6th Form Basketball Starlets Named in Maccabi Youth Games Squad
Immanuel College is delighted to announce the selection of 4 of its sixth formers who will be representing Maccabi Great Britain in Under 18 basketball at the upcoming European Maccabi Youth Games this July.
Jeff Levi, Josh Stavinsky, Sammy Barnett (pictured) and Refael Madar will be competing in Maccabi's first ever London games in 5-on-5 basketball against the likes of the USA, Germany, Turkey, Italy and Austria.
The boys have been training since November last year in weekly sessions, or sometimes twice per week, under the watchful eye of Coach Dan Tannenbaum, a former Immanuel College pupil.
Tannenbaum said: "It gives me great pride, no, nachas, that 4 of our Immanuel boys have been selected for the GB squad this summer. These boys train extremely hard and have benefitted from the weekly training sessions and Pesach term fixtures arranged by the Immanuel College Sports Department."
"The highlight of the school basketball season was beating Rickmansworth School by 51-29, a team that IC had lost to a year prior by a similar margin - which simply shows just how far they have come."
In a recent charity match, Jeff Levi was named as the MVP (most valuable player) in front of a crowd of 150 people.
During the games, the boys will be competing with 500 other athletes from more than 15 countries across the world, whilst playing a daily match and enjoying social activities and leadership workshops during the day.
We would like to wish the boys a very good luck this summer and bring home the gold!
The team has been very generously sponsored by Premier Lofts and Claims Bible.
