Huge congratulations to aspiring Immanuel poets Rafi Goldstien (Year 7) and Sigal Nachshen (Year 7), who have won 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the Bar Sagi Young Poets Prize.
Bar Sagi was a young Israeli poet who wrote in English. Sadly, she was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 12 and, after a courageous and protracted battle, she finally succumbed in 2017 shortly before her sixteenth birthday. To preserve her memory and to encourage other young poets, the family asked Voices of Israel to be their partner in a competition to encourage young people between 12 and 18 years of age to express themselves and have their voices heard through poetry.
Many pupils at Immanuel entered the competition and by doing so, they participated in the mitzvah of honouring the memory of Bar Sagi. Fantastic poems were written by our pupils and it is wonderful that Rafi won 2nd prize and Sigal won 3rd prize.
The prize giving ceremony will take place on Sunday 2nd May via Zoom from Tel Aviv.
