Les Misérables Comes to Immanuel College's Joyce King Theatre

Immanuel College is proud to celebrate the resounding success of its recent production of Les
Misérables School Edition, which concluded its run to standing ovations at every performance and
glowing acclaim from audiences, staff, and community members alike.

Under the joint Direction of Stephen Levey (Director of Music) and Samantha Cooper (Singing and
Choreography) and produced by Amreen Raj, this ambitious production brought Victor Hugo’s
timeless story of resilience, justice, and redemption to the stage with a level of professionalism and
emotional depth described by attendees as “virtually indistinguishable from a West End production.”

From the powerful vocals of the student cast to the sweeping orchestrations (played by the band), and stunning staging, the show showcased the extraordinary talent, dedication, and teamwork of the music department and its students. “The cast and crew poured their hearts into this production, and the audience response has been overwhelming,” said Samantha Cooper. “To see our students rise to the challenge of such a demanding musical - and do so with such maturity, artistry, emotion and passion—has been truly inspiring” said Stephen Levey.

The Head, teachers, and the audience praised the show’s emotional impact, production quality, and the students’ remarkable professionalism. Many commented that the performance set a “new
standard” for the College and demonstrated the transformative power of arts education.
Head, Dan Endlar added “This was so much more than a school production. We are immensely proud of all the students and staff involved, for the masterpiece they delivered: not a note out of tune, not a prop out of place, not a single line missed, in two and a half hours! This was a perfect demonstration of the confidence, collaboration, and creativity this thrives at Immanuel College.”

Les Misérables School Edition marks a milestone achievement for Immanuel College, reinforcing its
commitment to providing exceptional opportunities in the performing arts.
