Military History Society - Trip to Portsmouth

On Monday 1st November, the Military History Society travelled to Portsmouth to visit the History Dockyard and the Museum of the Royal Navy. Pupils toured the dockyard, which was once the largest industrial complex in the world, and its collection of famous ships including HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. They also saw one of the two massive new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers in port. The highlight of the trip was a tour of HMS Victory, probably the most famous ship in the world. This ship was Vice-Admiral Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in October 1805. He was killed while serving onboard. No less interesting was a tour of HMS Warrior which, when it was built in 1860, was the most technologically advanced ship ever constructed.
