Tikva Trip - Day 2
This morning we woke up and went for our first breakfast at a kosher restaurant. Afterwards, we visited the Shevet Achim elementary school, where we enjoyed Kabbalat Shabbat with the 6-10 year olds from Tikva. It was really special to connect with the children through Shabbat songs that we were all familiar with. After Kabbalat Shabbat, we handed out gifts, for which the children were unbelievably grateful, and had a look around the school at some of the classes. The girls then had the chance to bake challah, whilst the boys played football with some of their counterparts their own age from the boys' home. This gave us all an opportunity to connect even more with the children and teenagers on a personal level. After eating lunch together, we went on a quick tour of the town of Odessa, visiting the famous steps and walking through the old square. This day has left us feeling not only so grateful for everything we have and take for granted, but has also shown us what an amazing cause the money we have raised has gone to. Tikva changes these children's lives and provides them with everything a child needs to succeed in life.
Wishing everyone back at home a Shabbat Shalom.
