Vibrant Volunteering Vegetable Venture!
There were many smiles and a lot of laughter over at Reveley Lodge Gardens today! For our first volunteering day, ten pupils helped Lesley, the Head Gardener, in the Kitchen plot for the charity shop.
Pupils harvested corn, broad beans and french beans, dug up the corn fields, chopped them up for the compost and prepared the soil for the next planting rotation. Some of the beans harvested were a rare 100 year-old heritage crop and were purple!
Then the beans were packed into little bags which were left at the Reveley charity shop for all the community to enjoy after making a donation.
It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and to hear that pupils are looking forward to the next gardening experience.
There are still opportunities to sign up for future sessions if you missed out this time. Already looking forward to next week!
