Israeli Shuk - Celebrating the Return of the Hostages

Our Senior Prefect Team organised a meaningful Israeli Shuk event in the Beit, raising funds to support charities in Israel and celebrating the return of the hostages. Prayers were also recited for the safe return of those still held in captivity and for the dignified burial of those who have not yet been brought home. The event created a wonderful atmosphere of unity and purpose, with music, dancing, activities, arts and crafts and an abundance of delicious Israeli food.

Art and Photography combined lessons last week to create and photograph Land Art in the style of Andy Goldsworthy, whom we have been studying this term. The students gathered natural forms such as leaves, stones, twigs and flowers and arranged them on the ground. Each group made something different and really captured the Goldsworthy style in their creations. As the work is open to the elements and therefore temporary, each group took a photograph of their land art sculpture which will be edited in photography lessons.The students really enjoyed the opportunity to work outside and as a group and they fully committed to the task. Thankfully, the weather was perfect!

IC6 UCAS Conference at The Grove Hotel

Over the past three weeks, our Yad B’Yad programme has been an incredible journey of learning, giving, and community. Students engaged in a series of workshops, where they learned about a variety of charities, visited different locations, and contributed in meaningful ways—whether by helping, packing, or offering their time and energy. Through these experiences, they explored what it truly means to be a giver. Immanuel College Compete in First Athletics Event of the Term

Cricket Season Commences for Year 9 and 10

Reach Free batted first and scored 107 runs from 15 overs.Despite good performances from Zeph Q and Jacob S, the boys ended up short of the runs required. Chess Club Welcomes New Coach

Our IC Chess Club welcomed its new coach, Damian Lemos. Damian is an Argentine chess Grandmaster and a renowned chess coach. He achieved the title of International Master at the age of 15, and Grandmaster at the age of 19. He has won several national and international chess tournaments, including the Argentine Championship in 2014 and the Brazilian Open in 2015. He has taught thousands of students worldwide through online chess courses and YouTube videos. He will be coaching the Chess Club going forward, working with the IC Chess Team during lunch 1, and with anyone else interested in chess during lunch 2.

Yom Hazikaron l’Chalalei Ma’arachot Israel ve’Nifgaei PeulotHa’eivah is Israel’s official Memorial Day. On Wednesday 30thApril, Immanuel College pupils and staff attended a most memorable and moving assembly to commemorate this day, remembering the soldiers and civilians who have given their lives in defence of the State of Israel, as well as the 7th October’s terror victims and hostages still being held in captivity in Gaza. The impactful assembly, prepared and organised by Mrs Sadeh-Ginzburg and Mr Levey, was led bythe Head Boy and Head Girl Joel and Annabelle. A Yom Hashoah commemoration took place at Radlett United Synagogue on Tuesday evening, 22 April and Borehamwood and Elstree United Synagogue on Thursday evening, 24 April. Taking part were Amiad D-L (Year 13) and Jacob T (Year 12) who both sang and Sigal N (Year 11) who played the harp. Mr Levey accompanied Amiad and Jacob on the piano, and Amiad and his mum, Debbie, on the violin in Mein Shtetle Belz and the Theme from Schindler's List. Wednesday 26th March saw the Geography department run its A-Level trip to the Barry M make-up Manufacturing site in Mill Hill. The guided tour took us from the warehouse into the production area of the factory where we witnessed make-up being made and bottled by both workers and machines. Performing Arts Festival 2025

Last week, the annual Immanuel College Performing Arts Festival took place - with nearly 80 pupils taking part and many performances over two days.With 80 pupils taking part and 50 different performances over two days. Pupil performances included a wide variety of musical instruments, ranging violin, piano, guitar and drums, as well as different singing combinations of solo, duet, trio and ensemble and LAMDA.All participants were given constructive advice and feedback from independent adjudicators. A wonderfully entertaining two days, enjoyed by all who participated and all who attended! 🎬🎤🎼🎹🥁🎷🎺🎸🎻We look forward to seeing the winners of each category perform in the Performing Arts concert next week!

Immanuel College and King Solomon School (Israel) Unite in Solidarity.

Immanuel College proudly hosted 130 students from King Solomon School from Israel for a meaningful day of collaboration, learning, and solidarity with Israel. The event, which brought together students from both schools, aimed to strengthen Jewish identity and express unity with the Israeli people, particularly in support of the hostages still held in captivity.

Year 9 Climate Change Conference at Habs Boys' School

Some of our Year 9 Geographers attended the annual Climate Conference at Habs Boys School. They started the day hearing from Professor I. Candy about his research on Climate Change. They then competed in a prestigious competition where our teams went head to head with local schools to propose possible solutions to Climate Change. We are very excited that one of our teams made it to the final three of such a heated debate!

Sixth Form Trip to the Bank of England

Economics and Business students in Year 12 visited the Bank of England Museum and went on a City of London Finance tour. The Bank of England Museum is a perfect destination to explore the economy, our history, and help students develop their financial literacy skills. From holding a bar of gold to helping keep inflation on track, our museum offers an educational and fun visit.The London city finance tour was a two-hour walking tour. The students learned about the origins of London's financial centre and the world's first Stock Exchange. Among other events which were discussed during the tour were the 17th century coffee houses plus the City's ancient and unusual governance which played a massive part in the birth of the Stock Exchange.The students had the opportunity to visit sites such as the London Stock Exchange, Guildhall, the Bank of England, Lloyds of London and Rothschild's.

The new year has kicked off with two unique intergenerational Jewish learning programmes. We welcomed Rabbi Dr. Daniel Rose from the Sacks Legacy Trust and Koren, who ran a parasha session for our Year 10 and 11 students with their grandparents. In addition, we were joined by Rabbi Malcolm Herman from SEED and Rabbi Sandor Milun from GIFT, who brought the Clean Speech Project to Immanuel College! Our Year 7 and 8 students took part, learning with their parents and grandparents about the theme of Gratitude. The room was buzzing with bonding and wonderful discussion.

Chess Competition at NLCS

Immanuel College played its first competitive chess match on Monday as part of the English Chess Federation's National School's Competition against NLCS. Although we did not win against this very experienced team, IC pupils were congratulated by the opposing team's coach for their good sportsmanship. We were proud of their intense concentration and 'cool under pressure'. The team shall continue to fight on for a place in the final via the Federation's repechage cascade.

Holocaust Memorial Day

Immanuel College held their annual HMD assembly on the exact date of the 80th anniversary since the Liberation of Auschwitz. Acknowledging and lamenting the fact that genocides have happened since the Holocaust, and that the word 'genocide' has been misused, the assembly also focused on the personal and moving stories of staff and students who participated on this year's Y12 Poland trip. The assembly also included a rendition of the Schindler's List theme and other Hebrew, Yiddish & English songs.

IC Sport headed to Manchester, where our students had the privilege of training at the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City and Belle Vue Stadium, home of Manchester Thunder netball team. Highlights included attending Manchester City vs Feyenoord, touring the Etihad and Old Trafford and our netball players training with Next Gen Manchester Thunder and England Roses Academy player, Yomi Wilson. Year 11 Have a Taste of IC6!

We are delighted that Madi Venter could join us today for a specialist workshop into the world of special make up and Prosthetics. Madi works in film and television and imparting her knowledge and expertise with our pupils. Madi spent time with our A Level pupil Lella Vecht, helping her with scar and burn make up for her horror movie she is creating. Madi then gave an in-depth hands on workshop after school on prosthetics to our Art scholarship pupils. It was a fantastic afternoon where they all learnt so much about this media.

Architecture of Westminster IC6 Trip

On Friday 27th September, a group of Sixth form students accompanied by Mrs. Sadeh-Ginzburg and Mr. Spitz enjoyed a thrilling day exploring the architecture of Westminster guided by the excellent and renowned Mr. Stephen Willis. The first part of the day included a close study of buildings demonstrating Neo-Gothic features of the area, in particular the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Students and staff also explored the Neo-Classical and Empire-styles, including Banqueting House, the Foreign Office and the Treasury building on Whitehall. Following a spot of lunch, the group enjoyed a glorious afternoon exploring the royal and aristocratic aspects of the borough and its grandest buildings, including Buckingham Palace, St. James Palace, Clarence House and Marlborough House. The Culture Society is grateful to Mr. Willis for his fascinating tour and is looking forward to joining him again soon.

Year 7 Achdut Trip

'Achdut' translating as 'unity' has played a central role in the transition process for our Year 7 students. A few weeks into term starting, Year 7 headed to Wales for their 'Achdut Trip', allowing them to get to know each other and gain a sense of unity between one another as a year group. As well as getting to know each other and staff, they were joined by four Year 12 madrichim as part of our Immanuel College Family Programme, where Year 7s are placed into "families" with Year 12s. Over the course of three fantastic days, the group took part in a variety of exciting activities, ranging from trampolining, rowing and water rafting, archery and bowling.

Vibrant Volunteering Vegetable Venture!

There were many smiles and a lot of laughter over at Reveley Lodge Gardens today! For our first volunteering day, ten pupils helped Lesley, the Head Gardener, in the Kitchen plot for the charity shop.Pupils harvested corn, broad beans and french beans, dug up the corn fields, chopped them up for the compost and prepared the soil for the next planting rotation. Some of the beans harvested were a rare 100 year-old heritage crop and were purple!Then the beans were packed into little bags which were left at the Reveley charity shop for all the community to enjoy after making a donation.It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm and to hear that pupils are looking forward to the next gardening experience.There are still opportunities to sign up for future sessions if you missed out this time. Pupils, parents, staff and grandparents came together on the last day of term to celebrate the successes of the year at our Annual Prize Giving. There were prizes awarded for academic effort and achievement, across the full range of subjects, as well as prizes of recognition for the contribution of House Captains and pupils who showed exemplary kindness and determination. Thanks to the generosity of our parents, all the prizes were sponsored. The morning opened with an address by Mrs Gaffin, Head of Prep School and ended with words from Dr Sachania, Head Master and Mr levy, Chair of Governors.

Year 6 Leavers Assembly

The Class of 2023 ended the school year with a beautiful Leavers' Assembly on their last day at ICPS. The pupils shared reflections of their time at their school and their aspirations for the future. The demonstrated enthusiasm and unity- both hallmarks of this class. Mrs Gaffin addressed the children, who were joined by parents, grandparents and siblings; her message was of the importance of looking after themselves as well as others, taking all opportunities that come their way, and making the right and not the easy decisions. The pupils received Leavers' gifts including a Siddur and Yearbook.

The final birthday celebration of the year took place on the last Tuesday of the term. Pupils with birthdays in May, June, July and August came to school in their own clothes. All the children enjoyed a pizza lunch, complete with birthday cake!

After a very early wake up, we met at Heathrow airport very excited to get to sunny, hot Madrid. Two hours later, we finally landed at Barajas airport and took the coach to our hotel which is right in the city centre of Madrid. After we dropped our luggage at the hotel, we started making our way to Puerta del Sol, the exact centre of Spain and we all heard about the history of the city. As we walked to the Reina Sofia art museum, we passed Madrid’s stunning architecture, scenery and culture. We visited Picasso’s large and very famous painting ‘Guernica’ and many other famous paintings by Salvador Dali and others. Afterwards, we took the metro which was fortunately air conditioned and made our way back to our hotel after a very long and tiring day. Later on, we davened Mincha with Mr Schneider and ate a delicious dinner. We ate schnitzels, pasta and chicken soup, and for dessert, fresh watermelon and vanilla cupcakes. Mr Raby had organised a fun general knowledge

Today we spent the morning in the picturesque village called Obernai where photography students had a fantastic time capturing images of the enchanting streets and shops. We all then went to Le Struthof Concentration Camp where our students laid wreaths, lit candles and Mr Spitz said Kaddish. Moved by the experience we returned to Strasbourg for Ma’ariv and supper at Empire Steak. Tomorrow it is time for Europark which is super exciting!

Strasbourg Day 2

We walked over 15 kilometres today visiting the old town of Strasbourg and Petite France. We then went on a boat ride along the canals where we saw the impressive buildings of the Council of Europe and Court of Human Rights. The photography students spent time capturing the sights of the city whilst the French students completed their initiation test. Everyone had a little time for souvenir shopping. After a talk about the history of the Synagogue d’ la Paix, we davened in the Ashkenazi section before heading off to L’B for burgers or Sushi. Once again, with full stomachs we returned to Ciarus.

After checking in to the hotel we went for a walk to the Opera House and memorial to General Leclerc who liberated Strasbourg in 1945. We then went to the Sephardi synagogue for Mincha and Maariv. Supper was at Autre Part, and with full stomachs we returned to the hotel looking forward to our first full day tomorrow.

Year 6 did a fantastic job hosting this year's Year 6 fair, raising money for our chosen charity in which we support Bubbles the guide dog.Year 6 spent a lot of time and effort planning and preparing their stalls and worked so well as a team to bring the fair together on the day. Year 6 were fantastic role models as they showed KS1 and KS2 children how to play their games, complete their challenges and participate in craft activities.A wonderful day was had by all.

We saw a 2000 year old ancient wine press that was still intact!We then went to the city of kabbalists, Tzfat. The views were breathtaking. Linked to our topic on The Very Hungry Caterpillar, over the last few weeks, Reception have been observing the amazing transformation of tiny caterpillars growing into butterflies. They have learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly and what the butterflies need to eat. Today we released 4 painted lady butterflies and the children said goodbye as they were sent back into their natural environment. The children received a special certificate to mark this occasion.

Year 6 enjoyed three action- packed days of activities on their Residential at Gilwell Park. Activities included tomahawk throwing, raft building, orienteering, crate stacking, fire lighting, fencing, go karting and climbing the gauntlet. They played football and Capture the Flag, sang and ate s'mores at a huge Campfire and even managed a little sleep! Thanks to Mrs Peysner for arranging every detail of the logistics, and to Mrs Gaffin, Ms Fudge, Rabbi Braham, Mr Moss and Mr Hodari for accompanying the children!

Yad B Yad Finale

Today was the Finale session of the Yad'B'Yad� Programme for Year 9 pupils. Over the last few weeks, our Yr.9 pupils have been participating in this programme, learning more about charities, social action and helping others. The programme aimed to break down barriers, with those with and without disabilities motivating our pupils Ty to want to take part in charitable causes. At today's finale event it was evident that the programme had certainly succeeded in its goal! Joined by representatives from 5 different charities : GIFT, Kisharon, Jewish Care, JAMI, Streetwise and Maccabi, our pupils gave presentations focussing on what they had learned and shared what they had gained from their experience. The session concluded with a powerful address from guest speaker, Steve Cunningham, a blind sportsman. He took the audience on his journey from despair to success and left them inspired to break their own barriers to achieve their ambitions.

Today's Year 7 Sports afternoon launched the summer sports curriculum and was an exciting lesson for our pupils on the school tennis courts. The lesson emphasised the importance of technique and footwork in tennis.Pupils were eager to learn and showed great enthusiasm throughout the lesson. They practiced various drills and played games to reinforce their new skills. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to enhance their tennis abilities and develop their love for the sport. We look forward to more tennis lessons this term!

On Tuesday March 28th, the Year 10 iGCSE Geographers visited the Dorset coast. The strong winds and crashing waves made for a dramatic scene as Lulworth Cove and the outstanding natural arch of Durdle Door enabled students to see for themselves the erosional features of the "Coasts" topic.A final trip to see the tourist management around Corfe Castle gave students the opportunity to bring the Tourism topic to life as well as gain a valuable preview for their course work trip to Rickmansworth Lakes in June.Overall, a successful day out, aided by the student’s mature behaviour as they engaged with their natural surroundings.

Science Club took this a little further with fun activities including levitation by repulsion of charged plates, charging up students on the Van Der Graaf generator until their hair stood on end, a fountain of pie dishes expelled up in the air and induced sparks similar to lightning!

As part of their topic 'Continents and Oceans', Year 2 had the opportunity to explore our continent a little bit more on 'Europe Day' today! The children were very excited to learn some well-known songs in French, including “heads, shoulders, knees and toes”. They also learnt to speak some basic Spanish words including the numbers 1-10 and some colours. The class then had lots of messy fun when they made their own pizzas 🍕 and decorated pictures of famous European landmarks in an art 🖼 activity.

Year 7 pupils have been learning about Chessed in their Kodesh lessons in connection to Avraham. The Beit team put together a Chessed workshop as a hands-on learning opportunity. The pupils heard from Shira Joseph from GIFT who explained the beauty of giving. The pupils then discovered their own talents and discussed how they can give with their unique gifts. The Book of Dust - An Immersive and Galloping Experience

In the evening of Tuesday 1st February, a group of pupils accompanied by Mrs. Sadeh-Ginzburg and Mr. Spitz enjoyed an unforgettable evening at the Bridge Theatre watching the play The Book of Dust – La Belle Sauvage. The play is an adaptation of Philip Pullman's deluge novel, which is a prequel to His Dark Materials trilogy. It is set in a dystopian fantasy world where every human has a soul-animal called a daemon. The play presents us with the journey of two teenagers whose mission is to save a new-born baby, who will grow into the trilogy’s heroine Lyra, from the clutches of the Magisterium, a medieval-style religious theocracy that wants to kill the infant and reassert its earthly power. They battle the evil authorities in a flooded Oxford. The dark, watery, and stormy visual projections on screens around the stage are gorgeous and the puppeteers skilfully articulate illuminated origami daemons. A mesmerising play which is a triumph of theatrical storytelling.

Reception and Year 1 came into a ‘crime scene’ set up in the classroom yesterday! They all took on the roles of detectives and made magnifying glasses to investigate what had happened. They saw three chairs, three bowls, three spoons. There were things all over the floor including a necklace, red ribbon and a flower hair clip. They realised this was The Three Bears’ house and that Goldilocks had been in this house. The children completed an ‘evidence form’ to show what they found. They had a wonderful morning.

ICPS were delighted to offer parents a Virtual First Aid Training session. Facilitated by British Friends of United Hatzolah in Israel, and run by Shai Jaskoll, medic extraordinaire, the session focussed on the ABC of immediate actions to take in a medical emergency, whilst waiting for paramedic support. Shai gave practical advice and demonstrated key actions that parents can take to mitigate circumstances. His talk was informative, empowering and well received by all in attendance.

This term in Art Year 6 have spent time learning about the Post-Impressionist Artist Vincent Van Gogh, they have been on a virtual tour of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York where they came face to face (camera to camera) with Van's Gogh's Starry night. Year 6 were surprised to see how small the actual painting really is. They have also looked at Van Gogh's method of painting using simple mark making and explored his vibrant use of colour. Inspired by the Starry night painting, Year 6 have created a digital mural, each child produced a section of the painting using the materials they have found around the house. It has been truly amazing to see how resourceful and resilient the children have been to produce this collaborative work remotely.

Sixth Formers Bubbling With Excitement At First Lunch Time Concert Of Term

The first "bubble" lunchtime concert of the term took place on Wednesday 21st October. The concert was arranged by Music Prefects Gideon Futerman and Tzvi Hurst, with the students taking part (and in the audience) all from the Sixth Form. The concert started with the newly formed Sixth Form Klezmer Group performing a traditional Yiddish song - Sol Schojn Kumn Di Ge'ula. This was followed by a powerful drama performance by Jonah Kastner and Sammy Shajer, with an extract from Dennis Kelly's After the End. Jed Arron played the drums, accompanying the song Feel Good Inc. by Gorillaz, which was swiftly followed by an impromptu "fill in" by Benjamin Goldstein playing Hey Jude by The Beatles on the piano. The concert ended with performances by Ethan Katz on the trumpet playing Gonna Fly Now from the Rocky films and Yona Taub who played Mad World by Tears for Fears on the piano. Everybody who attended the concert really enjoyed themselves
