ICIT Day 1!

The first day of ICIT '23 has kicked off to an exciting start! We had to wake up far too early for our teenage minds to handle but it has been SO worth it! We got through the airport quite quickly and enjoyed the last of our British snacks before boarding the plane.
The whole of Year 9 and our incredible teachers must have taken up about 60% of the flight! Landing in Israel was the most exhilarating experience, we clapped for the pilot and once we stepped off the plane into the humidity of the holy land, I could already tell how much fun the trip would be.  Our madrichim greeted us at Ben Gurion and we got on the coach towards Jerusalem. I thought I would find the coach to be the most boring part of the trip but was shocked at the gorgeous views outside the window; and thoroughly enjoyed singing Jewish songs with my friends at the top of our voices on the way there.
We stopped just before the sunset to daven mincha - an inspiring and meaningful first "event" of the trip, to daven in Israel. We then went to visit the "tayelet", a viewpoint in which we could see beautiful views of Jerusalem. We did some activities and got to know our caring, upbeat and fun madrichim even better. We enjoyed the views as we thought about, what we could, Yerushalayim Shel Zagav! We could see the walls of the old city, and Rabbi Golker asked us to consider how lucky we are to be here, overlooking the very site where the Beit Hamikdash used to be. I can't wait to enter the city itself and be further inspired by all the sites we see and activities we will do. It has been a perfect start to what is looking to be a perfect trip!
